Reunion With Dick Gregory

In 1968, Dr. Neckers served on the Cultural Affairs Committee at Hope, highlighted by a symposium on the "Crisis in our Cities," at a time when the country and, in particular, college campuses, were being ripped apart by race. One of the featured speakers was comedian and activist Dick Gregory, who Dr. Neckers reunited with at a comedy event in Toledo, Ohio, on July 11.

Dick Gregory's appearance at Hope College was a turning point in how the campus dealt with serious, divisive issues on the campus, and reflected Cal VanderWerf's interest in dialogue about controversial subjects. Read more in Cal VanderWerf: Anchor of Hope!
